Key takeaways
- The city says the temporary arrangement runs from 27 October to 9 November.
- Paseo de Extremadura's outbound lanes briefly merge before separating for the turn to Huerta de Castañeda.
What changes at the junction
Madrid has closed the vehicle underpass connecting Calle Huerta de Castañeda and Paseo de Extremadura while work continues on the A-5 and the future Paseo Verde del Suroeste. The temporary surface diversion began on 27 October and is scheduled to remain in place until 9 November 2026.
The city's mobility plan says the two outbound lanes on Paseo de Extremadura converge into one and then separate again to allow the left turn into Huerta de Castañeda. Follow the temporary signs and road markings at the junction.
Before you travel
The city's A-5 mobility plan links to its live works map and alternative routes. It recommends public transport and planning around the works where possible. The plan also links to EMT's bus disruption information; check your own line before setting out rather than assuming this particular diversion changes its route.
